Pastor Tim P. Blaisure – March 6th, 2022 – Morning Message
Remember the song, “Home, Home on the Range”, where it says:
“Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.”
I like the part where it says, “Where seldom is heard a discouraging word”.
Here is my new words for our church.
“Oh, give me a church where the people will worship
Where the Word of the Lord is declared all day
Where always is heard an encouraging word
And the presence of God is there all day.”
It is so easy to say discouraging words all day, but it is challenging to make each day encouraging wherever you go and to whom ever you talk to.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-13 NLT
Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you.
2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.
3 When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.
4 But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers, and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.
5 For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.
6 So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
7 Night is the time when people sleep, and drinkers get drunk.
8 But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.
9 For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us.
10 Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.
11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
12 Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.
13 Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.
The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless.
21 The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.
I. ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER:
· ENCOURAGE – Give support and advice to (someone) so that they will do or continue to do something. To help or stimulate.
“Some people brought to him a paralyzed man on a mat. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Be encouraged, my child! Your sins are forgiven.”
“When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.”
“In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews.”
· We need to support each other in the Faith and their daily lives.
· We need to give advice from the Word of God that helps others draw closer to the Lord and gives them hope.
· We need to help each other in spiritual, emotional, and physical things.
II. ENCOURAGING BUILDS OTHERS UP:
· BUILD UP – Make a person stronger.
“Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.
18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
“ Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you—my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you.
32 “And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself.”
“ These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them.
20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,
21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.”
· We are here to make others stronger in their faith, growth, and life on this earth so that we can be our best for the Lord, ourselves, and others.
· Jesus built Peter’s confidence up and spoke of his part in the Kingdom of God.
· God’s Grace helps build us up and give all of us a future.
· We build each other up when we pray for one another through the Holy Spirit. (remember He knows what people need all the time).
Conclusion: In these last days people need and desire to be encouraged. Will we be discouragers or encouragers this week?
