FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Pastor Tim P Blaisure – 05/29/22 – Morning Message

Intro:

We see people and things with our natural senses. Seeing, touching, smelling, hearing, and tasting. Many who in the past judged people who professed to be holy and those who were not taught what you should eat, what you should wear, how you were to be on the outside but on the inside they themselves were a mess.

This is why when God had the prophet Samuel anoint a king the second time for Israel, He said I will show you. Samuel was looking on the outside, but God was looking on the inside and that is how King David was chosen to be the king of Israel.

This is why today we are going to see how not to and how to stay truly holy and not be defiled (become unclean).

Foundation Scriptures:

Mark 7:5-23

Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”

6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:

‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”

9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.

10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’

11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God),

12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother,

13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

14 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand:

15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man.

16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”

17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable.

18 So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,

19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?”

20 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.

21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.

23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

I. TRADITIONS OF MEN CANCEL THE COMANDMENTS OF GOD:

A. Holiness on the outside:

1. handwashing, body, pots & pans.

2. kosher – Jewish dietary – no pork, no scavengers (carp, lobster).

Acts 10:13-15 NKJV

And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”

14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”

15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.”

3. Wear – judging what people wear as holiness or not.

B. Honoring parents with substance – consecrated to God don’t give.

C. Traditions of men that contradict commandments of God.

II. THINGS THAT ENTER THROUGH THE MOUTH ARE NOT WHAT DEFILES US:

A. What goes into the mouth the stomach will get rid of the bad.

B. What comes out of the mouth proves what is in the heart.

Deuteronomy 8:2-4 KJV

And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

C. Things we put in our mouth might be nasty and get the body sick but does not defile you or destroy your eternal life.

III. THINGS THAT COME OUT OF THE HEART DEFILES US:

Proverbs 4:20-24 KJV

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

A. When you put hatred, unforgiveness, wickedness, falseness, things of this world into your heart you will get out sin and death.

B. When you put in love, forgiveness, goodness of God, the truth of the Word of God into your heart you will get out righteousness, blessings, and life eternal.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NLT

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!

20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Conclusion:

Proverbs 18:20-21

Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction.

21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

James 3:8-11 NLT

But no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.

10 And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!

11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water?

We don’t have two different reservoirs inside us. We are not here to put on a show for people. They should see and know what God see’s and knows what is really in our hearts. Religion is a show to try and fool your way to heaven, but a true relationship with Jesus Christ is not a religion but a relationship that everyone can have and see is real and life changing.

Psalm 51:9-12 KJV

Hide thy face from my sins and blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
