PETER CALLED TO FOLLOW JESUS

Pastor Tim P. Blaisure – June 12th, 2022 – Morning Message

Intro:

Have you ever heard someone say that they found Jesus? The truth is Jesus found them. The Bible tells us that He knew us before we were even born before He started to create the Heavens and the earth. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, and the Author and the Finisher of our faith.

Think of an author of a book (each of us are a book of itself) The author has the idea, creates the story, he knows how the book is to finish before he even starts to write it. So, God knew you from your beginning to your end before He ever created you.

When we read a book, we start at the beginning and as the story goes all kinds of things happen. There is suspense, fear, joy, adventure, sorrow, and much more. As we read the book, we only know what we have read. The author who authored the book knows everything. If you stop reading the book what you know stops, but that doesn’t change the book, it only changes what you know about the book. What you know and God knows are totally two different things. Don’t quit!

Foundation Scriptures:

Matthew 4:17-22 KJV

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they straightway left their nets and followed him.

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their father and followed him.

I. JESUS WENT TO WERE PETER WAS:

A. Jesus went to where Peter and others were.

B. Jesus knew what they did.

C. Jesus called Peter and others despite who and what they did.

D. Jesus comes to us, knows us, and calls us despite who and what we do.

II. JESUS CALLED PETER AND OTHERS TO FOLLOW HIM:

A. Jesus saw Peter and the others.

B. Jesus got their attention.

C. Jesus said to them to follow Him.

D. Jesus has called you to follow Him.

III. JESUS SAID HE WOULD MAKE THEM FISHERS OF MEN:

A. Jesus uses what you know to call you.

B. Jesus uses who you are to call you.

C. Jesus tells them He is going to make them fish for people.

D. Jesus will use you, who you are, what you know to reach people for His kingdom.

IV. JESUS HAD THEM FOLLOW IMMEDIATELY:

A. Jesus’s call was responded to immediately.

B. Jesus did not tell them to follow later.

C. Jesus had a plan for Peter and the others.

D. Jesus wants you to follow immediately, not tomorrow, He has a plan for you today and for others he wants you to reach for the Kingdom.

Conclusion:

John 3:15-17

“That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

If Jesus called 12 disciples to follow Him from different walks of life and He even knew that Judas would betray Him, Peter would deny Him, and all but John would run from Him, and yet He knew all their outcomes before He ever called them. All but one went on and became great fishers of men.

So, He is calling you today. Follow Him immediately and you will see how the Author and the Finisher of your faith can do great things in you and for many others.
