THE BOOK OF ROMANS ADVENTURE

CHAPTER 13

(THROUGH CHRIST WE CAN LOVE AND OBEY)

Pastor Tim P. Blaisure – September 15th, 2024 – Morning Message

Intro:

In this Adventure through Romans, we have learned:

Not to be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ,

God doesn’t respect one over another,

we are the righteousness of God,

Faith gives God glory,

we are justified by faith,

we can bring our bodies under control,

we don’t have to live condemned by past sin,

Israel is God’s chosen people who rejected Him,

but one day will all be saved,

and that we are living sacrifices to God’s glory for others to see.

 Today we will learn more about how we are to live in this life.

Foundation Scriptures:

Matthew 22:17-21 NKJV

17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think?

Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said,

“Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?

19 Show Me the tax money.”

So, they brought Him a denarius.

20 And He said to them,

“Whose image and inscription is this?”

21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”

And He said to them,

“Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s,

and to God the things that are God’s.”

1 John 4:7-9

7 Beloved, let us love one another,

for love is of God;

and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us,

that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world,

that we might live through Him.

Philippians 2:1-3

Therefore, if there is any consolation in Christ,

if any comfort of love,

if any fellowship of the Spirit,

if any affection and mercy,

2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded,

having the same love,

being of one accord of one mind.

3       Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit,

4       but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

I.                     SUBMIT TO GOVERNMENT

Romans 13 NKJV

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.

For there is no authority except from God,

and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

For rulers are not a terror to good works,

but to evil.

Do you want to be unafraid of the authority?

Do what is good,

and you will have praise from the same.

For he is God’s minister to you for good.

But if you do evil, be afraid;

for he does not bear the sword in vain;

for he is God’s minister,

an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.

Therefore you must be subject,

not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.

For because of this you also pay taxes,

for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing.

Render therefore to all their due:

taxes to whom taxes are due,

customs to whom customs,

fear to whom fear,

honor to whom honor.

II.                 LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR

8 Owe no one anything except to love one another,

for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

For the commandments,

“You shall not commit adultery,”

“You shall not murder,”

“You shall not steal,”

“You shall not bear false witness,”

“You shall not covet,”

and if there is any other commandment,

are all summed up in this saying, namely,

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

10 Love does no harm to a neighbor;

therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.

III.            PUT ON CHRIST

11 And do this, knowing the time,

that now it is high time to awake out of sleep;

for now, our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

12 The night is far spent;

the day is at hand.

Therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness,

and let us put on the armor of light.

13 Let us walk properly,

as in the day,

not in revelry and drunkenness,

not in lewdness and lust,

not in strife and envy.

Conclusion:

Philippians 2:1-3

Therefore, if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,

2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord of one mind.
