WHAT LIFE IS REALLY MEASURED BY

Pastor Tim P Blaisure – 10/02/22 – Morning Message

Intro:

How do you measure the success of someone’s life?

Is it by how much money they have?

Is it by how much they own?

Is it by what kind of job or business they have.

Or could it be by how much power they have over people and things.

Is it how long you get to live?

What is life really measured by?

Foundation Scriptures:

Luke 12:13-21 NLT

Parable of the Rich Fool

“Then someone called from the crowd, “Teacher, please tell my brother to divide our father’s estate with me.”

14 Jesus replied, “Friend, who made me a judge over you to decide such things as that?”

15 Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

16 Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops.

17 He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’

18 Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods.

19 And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

I. BEWARE OF GREED:

· Psalm 10:3 NLT

“For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the Lord.”

· Proverbs 28:22

“Greedy people try to get rich quick but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty.”

· Proverbs 21:26

“Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give!”

· 1 Corinthians 5:11

“I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.”

A. With Greed you will not succeed. (Many types of greed)

B. With Seed you will Receive.

Proverbs 15:27

“Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live.”

C. With God leading you in life in the end you will have eternal life.

II. LIFE IS NOT MEASURED BY HOW MUCH YOU OWN:

· Psalm 49:6-7

“They trust in their wealth and boast of great riches.

7 Yet they cannot redeem themselves from death by paying a ransom to God.”

· Proverbs 11:4

“Riches won’t help on the day of judgment, but right living can save you from death.”

· Ecclesiastes 5:13

“There is another serious problem I have seen under the sun. Hoarding riches harms the saver.”

Luke 8:14

“The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so, they never grow into maturity.”

A. You cannot take money to heaven, but you can give it to God and transfer your reward into heaven.

B. You cannot take your possessions with you when you die.

C. You will leave it all behind and someone else will take it.

D. You can’t buy your way into Heaven it is by Grace that we are saved.

III. LIFE IS MEASURED BY YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD:

· 2 Corinthians 6:10

“Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.”

· James 4:7-9

“So, humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

9 Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.”

· Exodus 34:14

“You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.”

· Romans 5:11

“So, now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.”

A. Putting God first in your life and then everything else will follow.

B. We are to Love the Lord with all our hearts, mind, and soul.

C. God wants us to live in His system of doing things that way everything will stay in the proper order and our relationship with God will grow stronger daily, and the things of this world will not have a hold on us.

Conclusion:

Mark 8:35-37

“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.

But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.

36 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

37 Is anything worth more than your soul?”

IS ANYTHING WORTH MORE THAN YOUR SOUL?”
