MEMORIZING TIME IS NOT WASTED TIME
Pastor Tim P. Blaisure – 10/29/23 – Morning Message
Intro:
So, we have discovered over the last few weeks that there are things that we have heard or even thought to be wasted time are not wasted time but they are vital importance to living a godly and productive life for the Lord and for others to see and follow like:
Waiting on the Lord and seeking Him, Studying the Word of God and things that are important, Praising the Lord and singing songs about who He is, and Praying to the Lord in confession, asking , and interceding on behalf of others – He hears and responds to our prayers, and this week “ Memorizing Time is not wasted time”
Why memorize the Word of God when we have our Bibles?
MEMORIZE – To commit to memory, learn by heart.
“WHAT ENTERS YOU DETERMINES WHAT EXITS YOU” Mike Murdock
Memorizing the Word of God is investing in your Mind (Soul), Body, and Spirit.
What we put into our minds today determines our tomorrow and our future.
Foundation Scriptures:
Deuteronomy 11:18-19 MEV
“Therefore, you must fix (fasten or memorize) these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, so that they may be as frontlets (adornment) between your eyes.
19 You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Psalm 119:11 NLT
“I have (memorized) hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
I. NEED TO MEMORIZE (KNOW) THE WORD OF GOD SO YOU DON’T BELIEVE THE WRONG THING:
Matthew 22:24-32 NLT (Resurrection)
“Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.’
25 Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children, so his brother married the widow.
26 But the second brother also died, and the third brother married her. This continued with all seven of them.
27 Last of all, the woman also died.
28 So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her.”
29 Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that YOU DON’T KNOW THE SCRIPTURES, AND YOU DON’T KNOW THE POWER OF GOD.
30 For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven.
31 “But now, as to whether there will be a resurrection of the dead—haven’t you ever read about this in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said,
32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So, he is the God of the living, not the dead.”
II. MEMORIZING (KNOWING) THE WORD OF GOD MAKES YOU FREE:
John 8:31-36 NKJV
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
III. MEMORIZING THE WORD OF GOD SHOULD START WHEN YOU ARE A CHILD:
2 Timothy 3:13-17 NKJV
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Conclusion:
Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Renewing the mind is memorizing the Word of God not just in your mind but into your heart so that there is a transformation in your life.
