Intro:
Why should we consider and practice praying?
Isn’t the time you pray just wasting time?
What is prayer?
Definition of PRAYER – a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God for guidance.
In the KJV of the Bible pray, prayer, praying, and prayed are mentioned around 547 times. It is also recorded that Jesus prayed 25 different times throughout His ministry.
As it is mentioned in:
Matthew 26:40-42
“Then he (JESUS) returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?
41 KEEP WATCH AND PRAY, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”
42 Then , “My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.”
Foundation Scriptures:
James 5:16
“Confess your sins to each other and PRAY for each other so that you may be healed. The EARNEST PRAYER of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
Romans 8:26
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to PRAY for. But THE HOLY SPIRIT PRAYS FOR US with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.”
1 Corinthians 14:2
“For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.”
1 Corinthians 14:14-15
“For IF I PRAY IN TONGUES, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.
15 Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.”
Ephesians 6:18
“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT
“Then IF MY PEOPLE who are called by my name will humble themselves and PRAY and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
I. IF MY PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME: Christians
A. Humble themselves – make themselves less important than Me.
B. Pray and seek my face – put their dependence on God as their source & supplier.
C. Turn from doing wicked things.
II. I WILL HEAR THEM:
A. What is bound on earth is bound in heave , what is loosed on earth is loosed in heaven. (Matt. 16:19)
B. Forgiveness of sins.
C. Restoration of their land.
Conclusion:
Jude 20-21
“But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,
21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.”
