PEACE IN YOUR MIND AND HEART

Pastor Tim P. Blaisure – 08/27/23 – Morning Message

Foundation Scriptures:

Galatians 5:22-25

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

– Peace fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Text:

John 14:26-28

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

– PEACE IN MIND & HEART

Intro:

I have asked people what peace looks like to them and also searched the web on what peace looks like and what I get are pictures of everything in a state of calmness. This week my life was nothing like calmness but just the opposite. As I was asking the Holy Spirit to produce this fruit of peace in my life, I noticed something; the more I asked for peace the more hectic it got. Then around midweek the Holy Spirit reminded me of a story I heard about peace. A few painters were asked to paint portraits of what peace looked like. One drew a calm lake with everything calm around it. Another drew a nice, beautiful sunset; the last guy drew a fierce storm. The man who looked at the three asked the man who drew the storm how it was a picture of peace? He said look closer, as he did there in the corner of a cliff was a whole in the rock that had a mother seagull and her young all cuddled up and safe from the storm. Then the man got the true meaning of peace.

I. TURMOIL OUTSIDE- TURMOIL INSIDE:

TURMOIL – A state of great disturbance, confusion, or uncertainty.

Psalm 75:3 NLT

“When the earth, quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm.”

a. People of the earth live in turmoil- great disturbance, confusion, and uncertainty.

b. In the world there is such unrest today.

c. In people’s lives- sin is great today.

II. PEACE OUTSIDE- TURMOIL INSIDE:

Psalm 55:20-21 NLT

“As for my companion, he betrayed his friends; he broke his promises. 21 His words are as smooth as butter, but in his heart is war. His words are as soothing as lotion, but underneath are daggers!”

a. People that look like they live in peace.

b. Put on outward appearance of peace.

c. Inside full of hatred, fear, guilt, deception….

III. TURMOIL OUTSIDE – PEACE INSIDE:

a. Daniel 3:1-30 - 3 Hebrew men – outside bad- inside peace.

b. Mathew 8:23-27 - storm/boat- outside turmoil- inside with Jesus there became peace.

c. Psalm 23 - Our situations don’t determine our peace.

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

2 HE lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

3 HE renews my strength.

HE guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you (the Shepherd) are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.

You honor me by anointing my head with oil (health and healing).

My cup overflows with blessings.

6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”

IV. PEACE OUTSIDE – PEACE INSIDE:

Micah 4:1-4

The Lord’s Future Reign

“In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house will be the highest of all— the most important place on earth. It will be raised above the other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there to worship. 2 People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob’s God. There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the Lord’s teaching will go out from Zion; his word will go out from Jerusalem. 3 The Lord will mediate between peoples and will settle disputes between strong nations far away. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore. 4 Everyone will live in peace and prosperity, enjoying their own grapevines and fig trees, for there will be nothing to fear. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has made this promise!”

a. People in the millennium reign (1,000 years).

b. Peace on the outside.

c. Peace on the inside- Christ is on the throne.

PRAYER FOR PEACE OF MIND & HEART

Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, I ask you to change my heart and mind.

Bring that peace that passes all understanding into my life in such a way that it changes me from the inside out and even during turmoil I will rest in your peace.

PRAYER OF SALVATION Lord Jesus, I believe that you died for my sins, was raised from the dead so that all my sins would be forgiven and paid for. I receive all that you have for me, live in me, and help me follow you with all my heart and life.
